Direk Cathy didn’t like Dingdong at first, here’s why.

Direk Cathy Garcia-Molina admitted that at first she did not want to work with Dingdong Dantes.

This is what the director said in the press conference of Seven Sundays, the new family drama movie starring Dingdong, Aga Muhlach, Enrique Gil, Cristine Reyes, and Ronaldo Valdez.

“May isang pelikula si Dingdong na napanood ko, hindi ko sasabihin ang pelikulang yun, pero matagal na ito.

“Sabi ko sa sarili ko noong pinapanuod ko yung pelikula na yun na, ‘Hay! Diyos ko, Lord, ayaw ko ‘tong artistang ‘to.’”

[Dingdong has a movie that I watched, I will not name that movie, but it’s been a while. I said to myself as I watched the movie, ‘Hay! My God, Lord, I do not want this type of acting.’]
Direk Cathy laughed loudly before she continued, “Napapa ‘Oh My God!’ ako sa acting niya. Yung eksena sa pelikula ay sumisigaw siya.”

The director looked at the GMA-7 actor and said he knows that she does not like those scenes. The director prefers natural style of acting.

She even shared that she was afraid that Dingdong will be one of her actors. Direk Cathy joked that she’d murder Dingdong if he gives her that old school kind of acting.

Direk Cathy again laughed, then she clarified that this was not the case when they made their Star Cinema movie, Seven Sundays.
Direk Cathy said, “But in this movie, the opposite happened. I love Dingdong from the first day he set foot on my set-up to now, in fact, I became a fan.
“Kasi no expectation ako, e.”

When he was working with Dingdong, the director had a change of heart about the Kapuso actor.

“Pero noong umaarte na siya, sabi ko sa sarili ko, ‘Marunong pala ‘to’, then ang sumunod kong sinabi sa sarili ko, ‘Magaling pala ‘to’.
“I really appreciate Dingdong here, panuorin niyo siya rito. Lumevel! MY GOD! Kasi sina Tito Ronaldo Valdez at Aga Muhlach may mga marka sa akin na magagaling na artista, so, noong sumabay siya, sobra akong proud of him.

“Attitude? Wala, wala, wala pong attitude! Never siyang dumating sa set ko na pagod na at ayaw magtrabaho. I love Dingdong now! I’m a fan!”

[But when he came, I said to myself, ‘He can act,’ then what I said to myself, ‘He is great!’ to ‘. I really appreciate Dingdong here. He leveled up! MY GOD! As Tito Ronaldo Valdez and Aga Muhlach have scores of my best actor, so, when he was able to act alongside them, I was so proud of him. Attitude? He does not have an attitude! He never came to my set feeling tired and did not want to work. I love Dingdong now! I’m a fan! “]

What is Dingdong’s reaction to this revelation by Direk Cathy?
“Ang reaksyon ko diyan, in regards with attitude, given naman ‘yan na, na wala akong pinepeke, that’s really who I am in terms of performance.

“From the start, pinakita na agad ni Direk Cathy ang warmth na karapat-dapat para sa isang family, dahil tulad ng sinabi niya, she sees herself in all the characters, kaya very personal sa kanya ang pelikulang ito.

“Pinakita niya yung ganung energy niya sa amin, kaya wala dapat ibang maibibigay ang mga artista niya dito kundi yung best nila, para magampanan nila nang maayos ang kanilang karakter.
“Umpisa pa lang, alam na namin yun.”

[My reaction to that, in regards to attitude, given that, that I have nothing to say, that’s really who I am in terms of performance. From the start, Direk Cathy immediately showed warmth that is worthy for a family, because as he said, she sees herself in all the characters, so this movie is very personal to her. She showed us her energy, so her artists do not have anything to give but the best they can, so they can do their character well. We’ve known that from the start.]

Dingdong also praised the director as he called his great leader while doing the movie. He said he is very inspired in this movie. And as early as the story conference, he already wanted to know Direk Cathy.

She’s the captain of the ship. He said that it’s the reason Seven Sundays is a beautiful movie – it’s because of Direk Cathy.
