Throwback Thursday: Marimar Auditions!

It is safe to say that the Filipino adaptation of the hit Mexican series “MariMar” paved the way for Marian Rivera to a truck load of opportunities and blessings.

In March 2008, an audition video leaked showing the actresses who auditioned as Marimar.

The actresses were asked to wear two-piece outfits and do a Latina dance. They also acted out a scene with MariMar’s favorite fur friend, Fulgoso.

Here are the other actresses that could’ve been MariMar.

Of course, first is the crowned MariMar, Marian Rivera. After MariMar, she has been dubbed as the Kapuso Primetime Queen.
This is where she also met her now husband, and then leading man, Dingdong Dantes. Really, it was a life-changing project for Marian.


Eat Bulaga host Pauleen Luna also auditioned for the role. She is now a mainstay at Eat Bulaga and is expecting her first child with husband Vic Sotto whom he married in 2016.


Rhian Ramos also tried to nab the Latin lead role. Back then, she was the leading lady of Richard Gutierrez Now, she’s still very active in showbiz and just recently concluded Sinungaling ang Puso Mo and a minor part in My Love From The Star.


Bianca King was also one of the hopefuls. GMA was grooming her to have an antagonist profile for almost all her shows. Now, she has moved to ABS-CBN and is one of the lead cast for Pusong Ligaw.


You’d be surprised to learn that Chesca Garcia-Kramer also auditioned for MariMar. She is now known as Mama Kramer of the famous social media family #TeamKramer, which is of course her real family with husband Papa Kramer – Doug Kramer.


Kapuso leading actress Jennylyn Mercado was also one of the auditionees for MariMar. She didn’t land the role but she since then bagged lead roles after lead roles. Her most recent project was the Filipino adaptation of the hit Korean Drama “My Love From The Star” where she played Steffi.


Ryza Cenon was just starting out when she auditioned for MariMar. She is now more popularly known as the kontrabida Georgia on the highest rating afternoon show, Ika-6 na


Valerie Concepcion didn’t get to be MariMar despite her dancing skills. Currently, she is playing an antagonist role in Mulawin vs. Ravena.


Can you imagine Camille Pratts as MariMar? That would’ve been interesting. Now she is currently hosting the GMA News TV talk show Mars with Suzy Entrata. Camille is also expecting her first-born child with husband John Yambao.


Katrina Halili was more known as an antagonist because of her striking kontrabida looks. She just concluded her afternoon show, D’Originals.


Starstruck Batch 1 Nadine Samonte also auditioned for MariMar but lost to Marian.
She is now a fulltime mom after marrying her husband Richard Chua.


Do you still remember Nancy Castiliogne? Nancy was known for her role in Sana ay Ikaw na nga and for hosting Starstruck Batch 1. Nancy eventually left showbiz and is now living in Canada with her husband.


Jewel Mische, then a very new actress, also tried out for the role of MariMar.
In 2011, she decided to transfer to ABS-CBN and took on kontrabida roles. She eventually left show business to settle down with husband Alister Kurzer.


Could you imagine MariMar with any of these actresses? Marian Rivera was indeed a perfect fit for that role and all worked out for the rest of them.
